Tarina
Ennätyspitkä hellekausi oli päättymäisillään ja samalla myös mahdollisuudet rajuihin ukkosiin. Lomaileva jäsen A-J ajeli illansuussa Pohjanmaalta takaisin pk-seudulle ja nautti matkalla mielestään (mahdollisesti) viimeisistä kunnon ukkosista. Ruoveden kohdalla äkäinen raekuuro yllättikin ja viskoi 4-8 millisiä jääpaloja saaden lämpötilan laskemaan äkisti vain +9 asteeseen! Muutenkin matka tarjosi aina Hämeenlinnaan asti näyttäviä torneja ja satunnaista salamointia.
Ajomatkan aikana jäsen A-J:lle alkoi kuitenkin sadella puheluja ja pyyntöjä selvittää tulevan yön tilannetta tarkemmin. Kuuleman mukaan telkussakin meteorologit olivat mainostaneet yöukkosten mahdollisuutta. Kotona jäsen A-J alkoi rauhallisin mielin väsätä Myrskyareenan ennustetta, mutta aikomus jäi varsin lyhyeksi. Numeeriset mallit osoittivat voimakkaan ylämatalan lähestyvän luoteesta ja yläkerran kylmän advektion siivittämänä vääntävän myös stabiilisuusindeksit yöukkoskuosiin.
Tutkakuvien vilkaisu kertoi Hämeenlinnan tienoilla konvektiosolujen ryhmittymisestä ja voimistumisesta. Tämän lisäksi eteläisellä Selkämerellä oli Saaristomerta lähestymässä pieni mutta punahehkuinen tutkakaiku. Ongelmaksi muodostui kuitenkin valinta Hämeen ja Selkämeren otusten välillä. Pikaisten puhelinneuvottelujen tuloksena saimme koko HLCL-tiimi kasaan tarkoituksena lähteä matkaan selustat varmistavalla taktiikalla.
Numeeristen mallien perusteella lounainen Suomi vaikutti otollisemmalta seudulta – olihan siellä vielä lämmin merialusta tarjolla ja malleissa mukavasti PVA:ta. Päätimme kuitenkin tehdä aluksi pienen lenkin Tampereen motaria pitkin tarkistamaan Pirkanmaalla tuikkivan mörön kunto. Pian pk-seudun valosaasteesta päästyämme väläyksiä alkoi näkyä pohjoisessa, mutta intensiteetti oli lievä pettymys. Gerpsittely kertoikin, että paras aktiivisuus oli jo möhkäleen toisella laidalla, reilusti Hämeenlinnan pohjoispuolella.
Riihimäen kohdalla hylkäsimme Hämeen ukkoset ja suuntasimme Forssan kautta kohti Turkua. Matkan varrella lounaissaariston ukkoset näyttivät ensin pieniä hyytymisen merkkejä vetäen tiimin hetkeksi hiljaiseksi. Pian Forssan jälkeen tunnelma nousi kuitenkin Astran matalalla olevaan kattoon, kun lounainen taivas välähteli kiivaasti. Etäisenpunaisia tuikkeita näkyi parhaimmillaan parin sekunnin välein. Kilometrit Turkuun taittuivat kuitenkin tuskaisen hitaasti…
Ennen Turkua käännyimme kohti Naantalia, suoraan välkkyvän taivaan alle. Harmiksemme salamoiva alue oli hieman kahtiajakautunut – toinen haara oli enemmän Uudenkaupungin suunnalla ja toinen Turun saaristossa. Päätimme maksimoida nautinnon ja kieppasimme ennen Naantalia Mietoisiin menevälle tielle. Pian eteemme aukesi mahtava peltoaukea, jolla oli kuin meitä varten pieni peltotie. Länsitaivasta silpoivat jo näyttävät pilvisalamat sytyttäen koko ukkospilvivallin tuleen – nopeasti kamerat ulos autosta ja kuvaamaan Joutsenen ja Kassiopeian alle.
Kamerat raksuttivat ja tiimi henkäili epäuskoisena katsellen ukkospilvilampun syttymistä yhä uudestaan ja uudestaan. Tilanteen kruunasi yllä oleva tähtitaivas ja pellolla aavemaisena leijaileva pintasumulautta. Osittain meren puolella oleva ukkosalue lähestyi melko hitaasti ja antoi runsaasti aikaa kuvaukselle. Salamointitiheys ylti parhaimmillaan 15-30 iskuun minuutissa ja sivusilmällä tarkkailimme samalla, kuinka Rauman suunnan konvektiosolut alkoivat tuikkia voimakkaasti kaukana horisontissa.
Lopulta alasinpilviharso nousi päällemme ja pellon ylitti pienikokoinen sumupilvivalli. Etureunassa tummaa taivasta vasten näkyi mielenkiintoinen kaareva pilvimuodostelma, jota ehdimme jo epäilemään jonkinmoiseksi vyörypilveksi. Lopulta alasinmatojen (anvil crawler) päät alkoivat yltää yläpuolellemme ja päätimme turvallisuussyistä vaihtaa maisemaa.
Pian alueen eteläinen haara oli liikkunut idemmäksi ja ryhtynyt läiskimään raivokkaasti maasalamoita. Ajoimme tuloreittiämme palanmatkaa takaisin ja teimme pienen stopin erään pellon laitaan. Ennen pysähdystä edessämme räiskähti ehkä koko kesän ärein maapaukku – neljä vierekkäistä paksua purkauskanavaa hakkasi moninkertaisena Naantalin maankamaraa. Liekö juuri tämä tapaus vaurioittanut läheisellä satama-alueella Fortumin yksikön laitteita? Kuvaustauko jäi kuitenkin lyhyeksi maasalamoiden välkkyessä intensiivisesti melko lähellä.
Tiuku näytti jo puolta neljää, kun ajelimme Turun ohitustietä kohti Saloa. Etelän puolelle oli syntynyt pitkä ja näyttävä kielekepilvi, jonka alta maasalamat kurkkivat 10-20 sekunnin välein. Pysähdyimme tienvarteen lähelle katuvalaistusta ja kuvailimme taas hetken jo kolmatta tuntia jatkuvaa ilotulitusta. Jäsen P:n ja A:n työvuorot painoivat jo aikataulussa eikä länsirannikolla äkäisenä jatkuvaa tykitystä voinut enää palata katsomaan. Paluumatkalla ihailimme aina Salon seudulle asti etelässä ja lounaassa jatkuvaa välkettä.
Kesän toinen yöukkoschase onnistui varsin eri tavalla kuin ensimmäinen. Nyt auto pysyi lähes kuivana koko matkan ja kameroilla oli tuntitolkulla aikaa raksuttaa. Maasalamoita olisi toki voinut olla tarjolla lähempänäkin ja aikaa käytettävissä enemmän. Tästä huolimatta HLCL-tiimi poistui Vakka-Suomen aukeilta enemmän kuin tyytyväisinä mukanaan jälleen runsaasti materiaalia kiikkustuolimuisteloihin.

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Appreciate it!
